III. SPEAKER: Collin Morris Program for liberal Arts and Civil Engagement. (PLACE) |
PLACE is a student run initiative to further seek a Liberal Arts education. It would promote a campus wide and interdisciplinary focus on an issue. This issue would be explored through different modes of inquiry.
Q: Is there a budget for the program? A: The budget is growing Q: Will incoming freshman be required to participate? A: No, PLACE is voluntary unless an individual faculty member requires it. Q: How will faculty engage students who are not taking a class focused on the PLACE issue? A: The hope is to bring in speakers and host events to engage students. Q: How is the theme chosen? A: A faculty committee votes on it.
Dan Fergueson, Advisor: Many other small colleges have themes but this would take it to the next level. It can be incorporated in many ways, even entertainment.
Jake Baker, Junior senator: I am in a PLACE class and it is very interesting and different than other classes. I am really excited about the potential this program has. |
Become more aware of the PLACE program and recognize its potential to improve Linfield College. |

IV. Committee Reports on October 16th, 2012 Meeting |

1. Club Support and Finance |
-Use ipod touches to take surveys. -Gift cards will be an incentive to participate. -Battery recycling locations. -Filtered drinking fountains |
Continue to brainstorm and choose which issues to move forward with. |

2. Campus Improvement |
-Lighting on campus. -The water ban. -Newspapers - The Bells -Student Union. |
Continue to research the student union, availability of newspapers on campus, the water ban, and remain receptive to the student body. |

|
3. Senate Governance |
Speed dating party on the 13th of November during a committee meeting to break the ice. -Host a flash dance to get people to vote and run for elections. |
-Determine where the party will be held. - Continue to brainstorm ways to publicize elections. |

|
V. CONSTITUENCY CONCERNS: |

|
1. There are no flyers in Riley about clubs. |
-The flyers are being made. - Many clubs have not submitted information -There is a place online to see them all. Ask Josh Melander, Club Director, for the link.

VI. CABINET REPORTS |

-Move online presence onto a new site called Collegiate Link. It will streamline many processes and make everyone’s lives easier. How to fund this is being determined. -This Friday Susanna and Nic have a meeting with President Hellie - Swipe access to the observatory is coming soon. Q: What is the cost of Collegiate Link? -Thursday Trustee report due - Senate is going to move to a bigger space. -The senate summary has replaced the senators’ responsibility to send their constituents an email after every meeting. -A new chair position is open, Club Support and Finance Committee Chair. -When you do something as a senate member please wear your new senate lanyard. |

- Collegiate Link is expensive but it is only 2.7% of student body fee. It will be worth it if used to full potential. - Senate members are student leaders and should consider running for elections, applying for cabinet, or continuing to be involved in senate. - Family Weekend is this weekend - Star Search, hosted by Alpha Phi is this weekend. (see wildcat weekly for more upcoming events and specific times) |
