Meeting Minutes
Senate meets every Monday to discuss the issues going on on campus for the week. A detailed record of what happens every meeting is kept and available below. These minutes are a draft until approved by Senate the following week.

Senate Minutes
May 7th, 2012
- President of Senate Susana Fajardo called the Senate to order at 6:34 PM. Roll Call. April 16th Minutes approved with appropriate revisions.
- Old Business
- Budget Proposal presented by Thomas Bryan, Vice President of Business and Finance.
i. Thomas highlighted the fact that the budget committee included student representatives. He went through the budget to review what was presented during the last Senate meeting. Giving senate another opportunity to ask questions and familiarize themselves with the budget.
- Questions
- Senator Maya Luque asked what is GM. Tomas answered that the money in the GM fund is put toward office maintenance, Homecoming, and the Taxi Service.
- President of Senate, Susana Fajardo asked what is LUPA? Thomas informed that LUPA stood for, Linfield Ultimate Players Association, as in ultimate Frisbee.
- Senator Andra Kovacs asked what the line designated total needed to cut referred to. Thomas explained that it was the difference between the amount requested and amount granted for budgeting.
- President of Senate, Susana Fajardo asked the budget was determined. Thomas explained that the budget is based on the number of students enrolled at Linfield and the number of expected students.
ii. Senator Alexis Heredia motioned to approve the budget. Senator Andra Kovacs seconded the motion.
iii. Discussion
- The floor was again opened for discussion but no discussion arose.
iv. The motion to approve the budget passed.
- Constituency concerns
- No constituency concerns were brought to light.
- Administrative reports
- Cabinet President Nic Miles
i. Nic attended the Faculty Assembly. It was his first time attending.
ii. The Taxi Service will be ending May 17th in terms of students being able to charge to their student account using their student ID. However, the discount on rides will continue. Right now the plan is to start the Taxi Service back up the Thursday or Friday of the first week of class.
iii. There is a blood drive this Friday, May 11th
- Vice President of Business, Thomas Bryan
i. There was an error found in the budget under the Linfield Gaming Council. The error was an adjustment error and it has been fixed.
- Senator Sarah Patty asked why Wildstock had 144% of their budget remaining. Thomas replied that this was due to roll over and extra funding that was granted.
ii. Reminder. There is a budget freeze in action.
- Vice President of Programming, Evan O’Kelly
i. The LAB is in transition and will have a retreat this Friday
ii. There is one more cat cab this year. Na Hemo is playing.
iii. Students can sign up to go Bungee jumping this weekend in the CIC
iv. Thai Country and Susical Musical event this Saturday at 5pm, located in Thai Country and the Gallery Theater. Students can sign up in the CIC and the cost is $4.
- Secretary, Maggie May
i. A new way to notify faculty and students when Cabinet members are in the ASLC office is being devised. The plan is to make this information available on the web in the form of a check in or out for Cabinet members.
- Student Center director, Nora Burnfield
i. Nora recorded a video in order to give a report from Norway.
ii. Applications for CIC and Game Room are being reviewed. The application deadline has been extended to May 9th.
- Club Director, Josh Melander
i. $300 have been granted to the meditation club for meditation pillows
- Sports Director, Keevin Craig
i. IM softball has 1 more week left.
ii. Commissioners are in the process of being hired for next year. There are already interested commissioners. Keevin knows of 5 candidates has only 4 spots. More advertising of commissioner positions to come.
- Publicity Director, Meg Burgess- Hull
i. ASLC is now on twitter. Follow us! Name: ASLC Linfield.
- An incentive may be enacted. Such as a gift certificates for the first 50 followers.
ii. Creative directors are being hired. 6 applications have already been received.
iii. Wildstock publicity is well underway.
- Senate President, Susana Fajardo
i. There is a senator questionnaire for all Senators to fill out.
- Constructive critiques are encouraged. Senators are to bring questionnaires back next week to the Senate meeting.
ii. Senators will also be turning in binders and leadership books next week.
iii. Senator applications are out. Encourage friends to apply for a Senate position. New faces and returners are needed.

- Committee reports
- Senator Sarah Patty announced that and 8 week charter for has been granted to the badminton club.
i. Proxy Bradley Keiliinoi asked if the Meditation club was coming up for a permanent charter soon? It was determined that the Meditation Club’s charter will ends after senate is out.
- Senator Maya Luque notified Cabinet that the old Cabinet has been interviewed and helpful tips have been compiled. The new cabinet will receive these helpful hints soon.
- Announcements
- There is a Give and go event hosted by upward bound.
- Bradley Keiliinoi will be attending the Board of Trustees meeting Thurs- Saturday. He will be back on Monday to report on anything exciting, especially the strategic 6 yr plan that will outline the goal direction of Linfield College. This direction pertains to all aspects of the college.
i. Bradley Keiliinoi will also present the idea of a Student Union or space with the same purpose. He is ambitious in our goals but realistic in our prospects.
ii. Cabinet President Nic Miles mentions that President Hellie talked about tap that draft letter at the Faculty meeting. A meeting with Sodexo is in progress.
