Profile
Alumni of the
Art Department have been accepted into a number of prestigious graduate programs,
including the Pratt Institute in New York, the School of the Chicago Art Institute,
and Claremont Graduate School. Other students have gone directly into careers
in business, art therapy, bio-medical illustration, arts administration, graphic
design, web design and publishing. Others have obtained the certification
necessary for teaching art in elementary or secondary schools.

A Sampling of Past and Current Linfield Art Student Activities and Achievements:
Internships help art majors
make decisions about directions for their work and their careers. In recent
years students have pursued internships working, usually though not always
unpaid, in a variety of settings, ranging from graphic and web design for
businesses and corporations to assisting in galleries and museums, including
the Portland Art Museum, the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, Broderick
Gallery and Froelick Adelhart Gallery in Portland.
- Dakota Witzenburg ('00) was
accepted into MFA programs at Claremont Graduate University and USC, and
has decided to begin at USC in the fall of 2000 or the spring of 2001.
- Steve Shoffner ('00) was
accepted into MFA programs at USC, Claremont Graduate University and the
University of Illinois. He has chosen Claremont, and expects to begin study
there either in the fall of 2000 or spring of 2001.
- Molly Jasper is off in
the fall of 2000 to the Seattle Art Institute for work in interior design.
- Dakota Witzenburg ('00)
collaborated with Professor Nils Lou on an art project commissioned by "Da
Vinci Days" in Corvallis, Oregon. They designed and installed eight triple-sized
windsurfing sails in a public park.
- Steve Shoffner, senior,
had a sumner internship at Froelick Adelhart gallery, Portland, Oregon.
- Dakota Witzenburg, senior, has an internship at PICA, Portland Institute of Contemporary Art.
- Whitney Wilcox, senior
art student, has an internship at Cottage Gallery, in McMinnville.
- Leah Eberhart ('99) has a new job at Broderick Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
- Tammy Bremer ('99) was
accepted to the School of the Chicago Art Institute, the Boston Museum School,
and Claremont Graduate School programs leading to the Masters of Fine Arts
(MFA).
- David Anderson ('97) formerly
webmaster for the Statesman's Journal in Salem, Oregon, now works for a
web design firm in Portland, Oregon.
- Shannon Kindy ('97) is
a free-lance graphic designer and works for Spirit Mountain casino in Sheridan,
Oregon.
- Tammy Bremer ('99) and
Rachel Potter ('99) were invited to exhibit their work at Blackfish
Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
- Polly Bartels continues
to direct and own a prestigious art gallery in Scottsdale, AZ.
- Jacci Den Hartog ('84;
MFA Claremont Graduate School '86) has produced a distinctive body of work
which has gained her a national following, and which was featured in 1995
in the 44th Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary American Painting at the
Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. Jacci currently lives in Los
Angeles with her husband, fellow artist
- Patrick Nickell ('84),
is a practicing artist in L.A.
- Richard Larson ('85)
is a practicing artist in Seattle, WA.
- Carda Burke ('98) is working
at Bullseye Connection, a Portland, Oregon glass gallery.
- Brandy Alexander ('97)
is teaching in the public school system in L.A. and intends to pursue graduate
study in art.
- Eddy
Tjahjadi runs a gallery in Jakarta, Indonesia.
- Andrea Hewitt has a fall
1999 internship at Broderick Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
- Steve Shoffner has a sumner
1999 internship at Froelick Adelhart Gallery in Portland, Oregon and a past
internships at NACo (national association of counties) in Washington DC.
doing graphic design and mass mailings, plus two internships in Australia
doing web design.
