Dave and Anastacia (Sims) Dillon, both '89

Dave and I met the night before the first Competitive Scholarship Day - February 15, 1985.  He and his friend Kelly Meyer drove up from Coos Bay and I drove down from Seattle with my friends Anne Purdum and Kris Seymour.  All 5 of us ended up at Linfield!

I think our admission hosts didn't really know what to do with us, so they organized a Trivial Pursuit game in the Whitman area director's apartment.  That's where we met.  The results of the game seemed to foreshadow the events of the next day...

The next day we took the Political Science scholarship test.  I was offered the second place scholarship and Dave was offered the third place scholarship.  The first place person apparently didn't end up enrolling.

When we arrived for the fall of 1985, we immediately recognized each other from the scholarship day and even had three classes together - Intro to Political Science, Japanese and Western Culture.  Between studying together and  just hanging out, one thing lead to another and we started dating.  Our senior year when Dave was ASLC President, we were up the ASLC offices in Riley and he gave me a fortune cookie. The fortune advised me to accept the next proposal I heard.  The next thing I knew he was giving me a ring and asking me to marry him.  Of course I said YES!

We graduated in May 1989 and were married in Seattle in January of 1990.  Lots of our Linfield friends were in the wedding party including Bill McCready, Kelly Meyer, Suzy (Cobb) Penner, Laurie Atkinson, Anne  (Purdum) Franks, Kate Munson, and my brother Kyle Sims.  We were married by Greg Sneller (husband of Area Director Cheryl Sneller and associate pastor of First Baptist Church in McMinnville).  We lived the first six months of our married lives in the Dana apartments where I was serving as an AD while working in the financial aid office.  We'll celebrate our 23rd anniversary this Sunday!
