Speech and Language Pathologist (retired)
Major at Linfield: English, Spanish
What are you doing now?
I am a retired speech and language pathologist. I currently sub in schools and classrooms for the handicapped. I have a little vending machine business and I have a small private practice in speech pathology. We live on a small farm where I take care of my wife's horses and seasonally we raise a couple of cows.
Tell us about yourself.
I graduated from Linfield in 1975. I went on to study for a master's in speech and language pathology, receiving my degree in 1978. I was hired on as an employee with the then Umatilla IED (Intermediate Education District). I spent 33 ½ years with the organization now called the Intermountain ESD. During that time I attended professional development in my field making several professional presentations, held the position of state secretary for the Oregon Speech-Language and Hearing Association for several years, worked on several statewide committees for the advancement of individuals with communication disorders, and worked in the specialty field of multicultural assessment and therapy for individuals within other cultural and other linguistic spheres.
How did Linfield help prepare you for your career?
Linfield gave me the basics to start my career. I thought I would use my degree to move on to law school. Instead with the help of my classwork and the counseling office I found a profession that meshed my love of biology and linguistics.
