Pre-Professional Advising - Pre-Nursing

Linfield College offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at our Portland campus.  Students attending the McMinnville campus can apply to transfer to the Portland campus after completing approximately two - two and half years of prerequisite coursework. 

  • BSN Prerequisite Courses: For admission consideration, applicants must have completed all prerequisite course requirements by program start date.
    • Prerequisite requirements for
    • At Time of Application: Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in their complete prerequisite courses with a C or better in each of those prerequisite courses.
    • Before starting in the nursing program (by July 10 for Fall entry and January 15 for Spring entry): Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in all their prerequisite courses with a C or better in each of those prerequisite courses.
    • Residency status: Students must complete at least 30 credits of course work at Linfield to be considered a resident Linfield student.
    • Degree progress: Students must complete 62 transferrable credits before starting in the Nursing program on the Portland campus.
    • Leave of Absence:  Leave of absences will not be permitted for the sole purpose of completing nursing prerequisite classes at another institution except in special circumstances and approved by petition. 
    • All Linfield students must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or above to graduate.

All McMinnville students interested in prenursing will declare prenursing as their area of study while on the McMinnville campus.  Prenursing students will remain with their originally assigned advisor (colloquium or transfer) until they transfer to the Portland campus. In addition, all prenursing students are required to meet with the prenursing advisor prior to registration each semester.

Registration for Spring 2014: November 4-7, 2013. 

Applying for transfer to the Portland Campus Nursing Program for Linfield College Pre-Nursing students:

There are two application timelines:

              a.        Fall 2014 Entry: 

                       i.    Applications available on this website by November 15, 2013

                        ii.   Applications due to the Academic Advising office (Walker 104) by 5pm on January 2, 2014. 

                        iii.  Transcripts for all pre requisite work are due to the Portland campus by July 10, 2014.

               b.        Spring 2014 Entry:

                        i.   Applications available on this website by June 1, 2013

                        ii.  Applications due to the Academic Advising office (Walker 104) by 5pm on July 31, 2013  

                        iii. Transcripts for all pre requisite work due to the Portland campus by January 15, 2014

- Know your prerequisite GPA: Nursing prerequisite GPA calculator.  (this calculator will provide your GPA with or with out Anthropology and Sociology).  

- Meet with your faculty advisor at least once a semester.

- Attend a prenursing advising sessions each semester.

Non-Linfield Students interested in Nursing at the Portland Campus

Students who already hold bachelor's degree and/or have completed the bulk of the prerequisite course requirements necessary for application to the Nursing program at the Portland campus should  contact the Enrollment Services office at the Portland Campus for information.
