First-Year Advising Resources 

Use these resources to plan for your Fall semester courses. This information covers:

  • appropriate course selection
  • college requirements
  • recommended first term courses
  • understanding what a reasonable fall term schedule looks like
  • time management

Linfield Curriculum

Understanding Linfield's curriculum, general education requirements, and majors and minors is important as you begin to consider what classes to take in the fall. All students complete a set of general education requirements called the Linfield Curriculum (or LCs). The LCs are a coherent set of courses that provide you with a strong career foundation, civic engagement, and the flexibility required of today's global citizens.

Advising Information by Area of Interest

Detailed information about majors and minors offered at Linfield College. Each entry includes information about a specific area of interest, Fall semester course descriptions, and things first-year students should consider when selecting courses. Pre-professional information is also included for students who are considering specific health or law related fields.

Area of Interest Grid

A quick one-stop list of suggested first semester courses in each area of interest at Linfield. Use this list as a quick reference guide, making sure to refer to the Advising Information by Area of Interest for more detailed information about each entry. 

Inquiry Seminar Descriptions

A list of all Inquiry Seminars (INQS 125) offered during Fall semester. All first-year students are required to complete an Inquiry Seminar in their first year. Plan to take one of these courses in Fall. If one does not work with your schedule or if they are closed at the time of reservation, plan to enroll in a seminar in Spring 2010. Faculty will be offering additional seminars on various topics that meet at different times. 

Majors and Minors

A list of all majors and minors offered at Linfield College. Please note that all students must complete a major in order to graduate. Minors, however, are optional. 

Weekly Course Schedule

Use this blank weekly schedule to plan for your Fall semester classes, making sure not to reserve spaces in classes that are offered at the same time. Plan also to add any details about your Fall schedule that you currently know - practice times, studying, work commitments, sleeping, etc.

Sample Schedule Worksheet

Use this blank schedule worksheet to build your schedule, noting the course title, number of credits, days and times offered, and professor's name. Make sure to have several tentative schedules prepared so that when you make course reservations you can adjust if classes are closed or unavailable when you enter WebAdvisor.

Academic Calendar

Use this resource to plan for Fall term. It will help identify important college-wide deadlines, registration for January and Spring 2010, Final exam schedules, and breaks during the term. 

Mathematics Placement/Advising Worksheet

If you plan to enroll in a mathematics course at Linfield, this worksheet will help you assess your previous mathematics experiences and select an appropriate college-level math course to begin in.
