New student Colloquium is a one-credit satisfactory/unsatisfactory course taken in fall semester by all first-year students. This course was initiated in 1987 to assist new students in making a smooth transition to college life.

Each Colloquium section is taught by a Faculty Advisor and a Peer Advisor. Students are usually assigned to Colloquium groups on the basis of academic interest expressed on their application to Linfield. Colloquium advisors in all departments, however, are able to advise new students in a broad range of areas.
