The Chemistry department has established academic guidelines for students interested in enrolling in CHEM 210: General Chemistry:

  • Students who have a SAT Math score of 560 or higher or an ACT Math score of 24 or higher may register for CHEM 210.
  • Students whose SAT or ACT scores do not meet the above guidelines are advised to complete an online advising placement exam prior to registering for CHEM 210. Common Question: What if I want to register for CHEM 210 even if it is not advised by the department?

If you plan a major at Linfield that requires CHEM 210, you will be able to register for the course the following fall. If your plans require you to take CHEM 210 this fall, plan to discuss your academic background and preparation for CHEM 210 with your faculty advisor during Orientation weekend. Consider also your math level according to the Mathematics Placement and Advising Worksheet on page 25 and, if appropriate, register for pre-calculus. Success in General Chemistry depends on a fundamental working knowledge of pre-calculus principles.
