At Linfield, The Political Science department affords students the opportunities to cultivate their personal interests in depth, while grounding them in a broader theoretical and empirical knowledge of the world around them. Recognized for its outstanding faculty and accomplishments of its graduates, the Political Science major aims to develop a practical skill set that enable its graduates to be different makers in a range of different professional settings.

GUIDELINES FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS:

FALL SEMESTER:

  • POLS 201 American Politics, POLS 210 International Politics, or POLS 220 Great Political Thinkers
  • Language (or other course of interest)

MAJOR/MINOR SPECIFIC ADVISING INFORMATION:

MAJOR CORE:
 40 credits in the department, including 201, 210, 220, 230, 487, 490, and 498. The proseminar is chosen during the junior year from among elective courses designated by department faculty. Students taking a course as a proseminar register simultaneously for the course (4 credits) and 498 (1 credit). Students must sign up for the senior seminar (POLS 490) in the spring of their senior year.

MINOR CORE: 20 credits in the department, including 201, 210 or 220.
