Linfield College offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree on the Portland Campus.  McMinnville students may complete prerequisite coursework (outlined below) to apply to the BSN program.  Typically, McMinnville students complete prerequisite requirements in two to two and half years and complete major coursework in Portland in two years. 

McMinnville campus students pursuing nursing must meet with the Pre-Nursing Advisor as well as their faculty advisor prior to registration each semester. 

Students must complete the following prerequisites prior to migration to the Portland campus:


1. One year of lab science (NW)
   a. General Chemistry: CHEM 210-211 or
   b. Principles of Biology: BIOL 210-2  
2. Anatomy: BIOL 212(NW): Not available for first semester freshman
3. Physiology:  BIOL 213– Prerequisite BIOL 212 (NW) 
4. Microbiology:
   a. BIOL 275 Introduction to Microbiology (prerequisite BIOL 210-211 or CHEM 210-211) or
   b. BIOL 361 General Microbiology (prerequisite BIOL 210-211 and CHEM 210)
5. Nutrition: HHPA 280 (NW) 
6. Life Span Developmental Psychology: PSYC 155 (IS) 
7. Statistics: MATH 140 (QR)(prerequisite: HS algebra I, II and Geometry or equivalent). 
8. Inquiry Seminar: INQS 125

Eligibility:

  • At Time of Application: Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in their complete pre-requisite courses with a C or better in each of those pre-requisite courses.
  • Before starting in the nursing program (by July 10 for Fall entry and Jan 15 for Spring Entry): Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in all their pre-requisite courses with a C or better in each of those pre-requisite courses.
  • Degree progress: Students must complete 62 transferrable credits before starting in the Nursing program on the Portland campus.
  • Residency status: Students must complete at least 30 credits of course work at Linfield to be considered a Resident Linfield student. (This is more specific to transfer students)
