GUIDELINES FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

FALL SEMESTER

  • Enroll in Physical Education major courses
    • Take 1 of the following paracurricular courses, 021, 039, 060, 062, 071, or MUSC 071, 072, 073, 074, 075, 080 
    • EDUC 150 Foundations of Education
  • Enroll in an INQS (this may also be completed in Jan Term or Spring)
  • Linfield Curriculum
    • PSYC 101
    • HHPA 242
    • Other LC requirements of one of the following, CS, UQ, or VP
  • Meet with Physical Education first year contact before spring registration: Jeff McNamee (jmcname@linfield.edu)

SPRING SEMESTER:

  • Enroll in Physical education courses
    • Take 1 of the following paracurricular courses, 021, 039, 060, 062, 071, or MUSC 071, 072, 073, 074, 075, 080  
    • HHP 183 Seminar in Health and Human Performance
    • EDUC 150 Foundations of Education (if not taken during Fall semester.)
    • BIOL 212 Human Anatomy/Lab
  • Enroll in an INQS if not completed in Fall or Jan Term
  • Linfield Curriculum
    • PSYC 101
    • HHPA 242
    • Other LC requirements of one of the following, CS, UQ, or VP

OTHER MAJOR/MINOR SPECIFIC ADVISING INFORMATION

If you are planning to become a teacher, do the following: (a) consult the Student Handbook For Teacher Education (which you may obtain in the Education Dept. located in Potter Hall) for the requirements for entry into the teacher education program; (b) schedule an appointment with a member of the education faculty (Education Dept.) and discuss the requirements for entry into a teacher education program; (c) schedule the following courses during your freshman because it is a prerequisite for admission to teacher education:  

  • EDUC 150     Foundations of Education
  • INQS 125    Inquiry Seminar

Minor

SPRING SEMESTER:

     Follow recommendations for your major  

  • HHPA 183  Seminar in Health and Human Performance
  • HHPA 184  Prevention & Care of Athletic Injuries

For those who intend to complete the requirements for a teaching degree, it is advisable to enroll in HHPA 182 during fall semester of the freshman year.   It is difficult to fit in all prerequisites prior to full-time student teaching if a student waits until sophomore year to complete HHPA 183.
