The music program at Linfield is a synthesis of liberal arts ducation and professional studies. It is designed to provide the richness and the breadth of understanding needed for worthwhile living along with providing special skills and understanding necessary to becoming a creative artis. The Department of Music Handbook is available to all students in the Vivian A. Bull Music Center main office.
GUIDELINES FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS
FALL SEMESTER:
a) For a major or minor in music:
MUSC 121 Music Theory I
Melodic and harmonic analysis and four-part writing techniques
MUSC 122 Ear Training and Sight Singing I
Develops skills in ear training and sight singing. Taken concurrently with MUSC 121.
MUSC 140 Keyboard for the Professional Musician
Develops skills in piano technique - recommended. Required for music education students.
MUSC 203 Applied Music Lessons (majors)
MUSC 202 Applied Music Lessons (minors)
Private studio instruction in instrument or voice
MUSC 110; or MUSC 117; or MUSC 114 Required Ensemble
Ensemble as appropriate to instrument or voice. Audition required for placement; Linfield Concert Band, Linfield College Choir, Linfield Chamber Orchestra.

- Recommended sequence of classes: Prospective music majors should inquire in the music office of the Vivian Bull Music Center for a Department of Music Handbook that provides curriculum information for music majors and the Music Education Teacher Preparation Program.
