Health Science: Environmental and Public Health

Linfield College offers a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences – Environmental and Public Health on the Portland Campus. McMinnville students must complete appropriate coursework to be eligible to transfer to the Portland Campus. Interested students must meet with a transfer advisor for further details.
STUDENTS WHO COMPLETE THIS MAJOR HAVE MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOLLOWING GRADUATION INCLUDING:
- Graduate education in public health, environmental health, health promotion, and allied health professional fields
- Health education in non profit agencies, hospitals, and organizations
- Research assistant in public health agencies and health research institutes
- Research assistant in environmental health agencies
- Clinical Research Associate (pharmaceutical company, clinical, or hospital setting)
- Employment in global and international health research and education
FIRST-YEAR GUIDELINES
FALL SEMESTER
- Enroll in one of the following required courses:
- PSYC 101Survey of Psychology
- HHPA 280 Nutrition
- HSCI 250 Introduction to Public Health
- Enroll in required course:
- BIOL 210 Principles of Biology
- Enroll in an INQS (this may also be completed in Jan Term or Spring)
- Fill your schedule with courses for the Linfield Curriculum (LC) requirements and/or a second major (if you have one) or minor courses (not QR or IS - these will be met by MATH 140 and PSYC 101, respectively).
- Meet with a health science transfer advisor: Debbi Canepa (dcanepa@linfield.edu, x2318) or Nancy Broshot x2753
JAN TERM (not required):
- Enroll in one of the following courses:
- MATH 140 Statistics
- PSYC 101 Survey of Psychology
- LC
SPRING SEMESTER:
- Enroll in one required courses
- MATH 140 Statistics
- PSYC 101 Survey of Psychology
- HHPA 180 Nutrition
- BIOL 212 Human Anatomy (Strong students only)
- Continue in required science course:
- BIOL 211 Principles of Biology
- Enroll in an INQS if not completed in Fall
- Fill your schedule with courses for the Linfield Curriculum requirements and/or a second major (if you have one)
OTHER MAJOR/MINOR SPECIFIC ADVISING INFORMATION:
- If time permits in your schedule consider taking a paracurricular course.
- If you are unable to get into BIOL 210 (POB) in the fall, complete your INQS, math and LCs and take BIOL 212, Anatomy in the Spring. Students with a strong science and math background may consider taking CHEM 210 and 211 in their freshman year instead of, or in addition to, BIOL 210-211
