Chair: Sharon Wagner
Transfer Advisor: Sharon Wagner
First-Year student contact: Tyler Laird-Magee, Virlena Crosley

The following material is designed to help in advising students who wish to complete a B.A. or B.S. in Accounting, Finance, International Business, Management or Marketing. In addition, checklists of requirements for the department's majors are available from the Business department.

Courses Appropriate for New Students:

New students interested in a business major are encouraged to complete math prerequisites, enroll in BUSN 260 and/or ECON 210 as well as an inquiry seminar, and begin work on Linfield Curriculum requirements. In addition, students pursuing a B.A. are encouraged to begin their language courses.

MATH Prerequisites

To register for BUSN 260, ECON 210*, or any other course from BUSN 200-BUSN 340, a C- or better in MATH 105 or in a 3-credit course at or above MATH 140 is required.

To enroll in most courses at or above BUSN 341, completion of MATH 140 (or equivalent), and MATH 160 or above are required. New students who have already fulfilled the math prerequisites for ECON 210 and BUSN 260 should enroll in MATH 160 (Finite Math with Calculus) or MATH 170 (Calculus I; the preferred option for students with a strong background in mathematics and/or an interest in graduate studies in business).

BUSN 260 and ECON 210

BUSN 260 (Financial Accounting) and ECON 210 (Principles of Economics) are appropriate for new students. They serve as prerequisites for most other coursework in the department. (Students who plan to major in accounting should consult with an accounting advisor about the wisdom of postponing 260 until the first semester of their sophomore year.)

B.A. Language Requirement

To earn a B.A. degree, one year of a foreign language at the elementary level is required**. Language courses may be taken at any time, but are recommended in the first year.

*Students may waive the math prerequisite for ECON 210 with a sufficient SAT or ACT score (see the course catalog for the Economics requirements in this area).

**See couse catalog for specific Language requirements for a B.A. or B.S.
