Guidelines for First-Year Students

Fall Semester:

  • Enroll in prerequisite courses for ATEP admission
    • HHPA 184 Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries*
  • Enroll in AT major course
    • HHPA 250 Prevention and Control of Disease
  • Enroll in one Ex Science major course
    • MATH 150 Precalculus or MATH 170 Calculus I
  • Fill your schedule with courses for the Linfield Curriculum requirements (including your INQS)
  • Attend the mandatory ATEP informational meeting (details will be posted on student news) to obtain an application and discuss your interest for admission to the ATEP*
  • Begin your clinical observation times (details will be provided at the ATEP informational meeting)

January Term (optional, but advised):

  • Enroll in one of the following courses
    • MATH 140 Statistics (especially if considering PT school or nursing)
    • PSYC 101
    • LC (VP, UQ or CS)

Spring Semester:

  • Enroll in prerequisite courses for ATEP admission
    • HHPA 284 Emergency Response*
  • Enroll in AT and EX SCI major prerequisite
    • BIOL 212 Human Anatomy*
  • Enroll in EX SCI major course
    • HHPA 183 Seminar in Health and Human Movement
    • PSYC 101 (if not taken during Jan Term)
  • Fill your schedule with courses for the Linfield Curriculum requirements
  • Complete your 25 hours of clinical observation*

Important Other Major/Minor Specific Advising Information:

Those students double majoring in athletic training and exercise science should NOT begin BIOL 210 or CHEM 210 in their freshman year. Admission into the ATEP is competitive. Students must apply to the program before April 15 of their freshmen year. In addition to the requirements (*) above for application, students must meet the following GPA requirements:

Cum GPA 2.3 or higher
AT GPA 2.7 or higher

Grades of C- or better in AT major courses (B or better in HHPA 184 and 284)
