Planning Your Visit

The Office of Admission welcomes prospective students and their families to campus throughout the school year. Even though we know it is hard to get away from school and other activities, visiting Linfield when classes are in session, students are on campus and teams are practicing will give you the best idea of what life is all about at Linfield College. As you plan your visit to Linfield, and likely other colleges in the Pacific Northwest, we hope this information is helpful in making the most of your time. If you have any questions, you may contact us at 800-640-2287 or admission@linfield.edu.

Calendar

During the academic year (September through May), the Office of Admission is open:

Monday through Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Weekdays, a full range of visit options are available.

Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

On Saturdays, current Linfield students lead campus tours at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and are available to answer general questions.

Linfield College observes the following holidays and is closed on:

  • Monday, September 2 (Labor Day)
  • Thursday, November 28 (Thanksgiving Day)
  • Friday, November 29 (Day after Thanksgiving)
  • Wednesday, December 25 (Christmas Day)
  • Wednesday, January 1 (New Year's Day)
  • Monday, May 26 (Memorial Day)
  • Friday, July 4 (Independence Day)

Linfield College is also closed from Thursday December 26 through Tuesday, December 31 for Winter Break. If you will be in the area from out-of-state and wish to tour campus, please contact the Office of Admission at 800.640.2287 or admission@linfield.edu. As the college is closed, a tour may not provide the best view of campus; however, if you are traveling from a distance and this is your only opportunity to visit campus, we will work to accommodate your request.

While almost any day is open for a visit, there are a few days you may want to avoid during the 2013-2014 school year:

  • August 22-August 30 (Fall Orientation and the beginning of classes)
  • November 25-29 (Thanksgiving Break)
  • December 5-12 (Reading Day through the end of the fall semester)
  • December 13-January 1 (Winter Break)
  • February 10-14 (Beginning of spring classes)
  • March 24-28 (Spring Break)
  • May 22-June 1 (Reading Day through Commencement)

Please also note that high school holidays and other no school days (such as inservice days, and fall or spring breaks) are usually quite busy. Please be prepared to be a part of a larger group tour and presentation, rather than a personal appointment.

What You Can Do During Your Visit

Depending on your time, and interest, we offer the following options for you to experience Linfield College.

Recommended:

Guided campus tour
(Monday through Friday at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.)
Our student-led campus tours are approximately 75 minutes. The route is approximately 1.4 miles and features all main areas of campus.

Meet with an admission counselor
(Monday through Friday, approximately 30 minutes)
Prior to, or after, your campus tour, we welcome you to meet with one of our admission counselors to answer additional questions or to review the admission and financial aid process. Students and parents are encouraged to bring questions about particular programs of interest, or a copy of academic records (transcripts and test scores) if they wish to discuss any concerns about admission to Linfield College. These visits are not considered "interviews" and are not required as part of the admission process. Meetings usually last 30 minutes. Please note: depending upon the number of visitors, you may be placed in a group presentation. If you have specific concerns to discuss (such as academic progress or special needs), please note that you would prefer some time to discuss your questions privately with a counselor.

Encouraged:

A class visit
(Monday through Friday, September through May)
Prospective students are welcome to sit in on a class to better understand what our academic programs are like, and the teaching styles they may encounter as a student at Linfield College.

Professor conversations and athletic coach meetings
(Monday through Friday, September through May)
Our faculty members and coaches enjoy the opportunity to share their perspective on Linfield College. Conversations are often about 30 minutes.

Optional:

Hosted lunch with a Linfield student
(Monday through Friday, September through May)
Sample our campus dining options, and talk with a student more in-depth about his or her experience as a Linfield College student.

Overnight stay in a residence hall with a Linfield student
(High school seniors, Sunday through Thursday, September through May)
Residence Life is a key component to the strength of the Linfield College community. You'll be hosted by a first- or second-year student in a residence hall, and join your host for dinner and breakfast.

Financial aid meeting
(Monday through Friday)
While an appointment with an admission counselor can provide a lot of information about financial aid and college costs, for more in-depth conversations about paying for college, schedule an appointment with one of our financial aid counselors.

Academic Advising & Learning Support Services meeting
(Monday through Friday)
If you seek additional information from our Office of Academic Advising, a Pre-Nursing Advisor or Learning Support Services, an appointment may be available.

Take a sample music lesson with a Linfield music professor
(Monday through Friday, September through May)
Students interested in our music program may have a one-on-one lesson if faculty are available during the visit time. Lessons are currently available for voice, piano and trumpet.
