Attending Competitive Scholarship Day

We look forward to seeing you at Linfield’s Competitive Scholarship Day!  Now that you’ve submitted your RSVP form, here is some additional information that you may find helpful as you plan your trip to Linfield.

Exam Description

Familiarize yourself with your examination description and be sure to complete the required forms or readings (if necessary) before coming to campus.

Event check-in information for Sunday, February 19

Registration for the day’s events will take place from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in Fred Meyer Lounge in Riley Campus Center (building #2 on the campus map).  An optional campus tour will be offered and will last 1 hour, 15 minutes (several residence halls will be shown).  If you’d like to take a campus tour, plan to arrive no later than 11:45 a.m., as the last tour departs at Noon. 

McMinnville Area Accommodations

A listing of McMinnville area hotels can be found online at www.linfield.edu/sleeptight. We encourage you to book your hotel early, as McMinnville is a popular weekend tourist destination.  Also, don’t forget to ask for a Linfield discount, as some area hotels may provide one.

Dining (on & off-campus)

On Sunday, an optional brunch will be served during the morning registration (11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) and desserts will be provided during the afternoon Academic Fair (3:30 – 4:45 p.m.). 

Linfield’s dining hall, Dillin Hall, is open for Sunday brunch from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Dillin Hall is building #33 on the campus map.

Meal vouchers will be provided to students spending the night in campus residence halls.  Additional on-campus dining options and hours may be found here.

Driving Directions to Linfield College

Linfield is located in McMinnville, Oregon which is situated 40 miles southwest of Portland and 25 miles from Salem, Oregon’s capital.  McMinnville is not directly off of Interstate-5, so please plan ample time to get to campus (at least 90 minutes from Portland and 45 minutes from Salem).  Directions to campus and estimated driving times may be found online at www.linfield.edu/directions.  

Parking

Parking permits are not required to park on campus.  Parking is available in any campus parking lot and on any streets.  Please note all city & campus parking signage and markings.

Linfield-sponsored Airport Shuttle to Campus

If you’re scheduled to ride the Linfield-sponsored airport shuttle from the Portland International Airport (PDX), please note the following:

  • Review the shuttle departure times closely.  If you miss your shuttle time, it will be your responsibility to find transportation to Linfield. 
  • We will contact you a few days before your arrival to give you contact information for your shuttle driver in case your flight schedule changes.
  • The Linfield shuttle driver will meet you at the Information booth by baggage claim carousel #3.

Linfield-sponsored Airport Shuttle to PDX

The Linfield-sponsored airport shuttle will depart Linfield from the Office of Admission (Michelbook House).

  • Review the shuttle departure times closely and plan to arrive at the Office of Admission at least 10 minutes prior to your departure time.
  • In order to ensure that visitors don’t miss their scheduled flights, our shuttles will depart promptly at the scheduled time.

Private Airport Shuttle Companies

Students unable to take the Linfield-sponsored shuttles or who miss their scheduled Linfield-sponsored shuttle must make their own transportation arrangements.  A listing of private airport shuttle companies may be found at www.linfield.edu/shuttles.

Overnight in a Residence Hall

We look forward to hosting you in a residence hall on Friday, February 17, Saturday, February 18 or Sunday, February 19.  Overnight visits are free of charge and all meals will be provided.

You will most likely sleep on the floor of your host’s room and will need to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel and personal items.  You may wish to bring a bed roll/mattress pad.  If you cannot bring your own sleeping items, you may request a bed pack (sheets, blanket and pillow) from the Office of Admission.  Please contact us at 800.640.2287 or admission@linfield.edu.

All students staying overnight with a current student in a Linfield residence hall must sign an overnight visitor contract.  You are welcome to print it out and bring the completed copy with you to campus.  Extra copies will be available at the time of check in.

We are unable to accommodate parents or families for overnight arrangements in the residence halls. A listing of local hotels and bed & breakfasts may be found at www.linfield.edu/sleeptight.

Students spending the night on Friday, February 17 must note the following:

  • Priority for Friday overnight stays will be given to students arrive from out of the country or Hawaii
  • Students who plan to use the Linfield-sponsored airport shuttle on February 17 from PDX to Linfield should review the shuttle departure time.  The airport shuttle will arrive to Linfield at approximately midnight.  Students will be dropped off at their host’s residence hall and introduced.
  • Students not riding the Linfield-sponsored airport shuttle must make arrangements to meet their student host through the Office of Admission.  Our office may be contacted at 800.640.2287 or admission@linfield.edu.
  • Meal vouchers for Saturday brunch will be provided.

If you’re spending the night on Saturday, February 18, please note the following:

  • Plan to arrive at Fred Meyer Lounge, located in Riley Campus Center (building #2 on the campus map), at 4:00 p.m.  If you need to arrive at any other time, please notify the Office of Admission at 800.640.2287 or admission@linfield.edu.
  • We will introduce you to your current student overnight host and review the activities for Sunday. 
  • Students taking the Linfield-sponsored airport shuttle #2, departing from PDX at 3:30 p.m., will arrive at Linfield at approximately 5:00 p.m. and will be introduced to their host upon arrival.
  • Meal vouchers will be provided for dinner on Saturday and all meals on Sunday.

If you’re spending the night on Sunday, February 19, please review the following:

  • We will introduce you to your current student overnight host at 4:30 p.m. in Wilson gym.
  • Meal vouchers will be provided for dinner on Sunday and two meals on Monday.

Student’s spending multiple nights on campus will most likely be assigned the same overnight host.

Class Visit on Monday, February 20

Our professors will welcome prospective students into their classes.  If you requested a class visit, we will provide class details and professor information when you check-in to the event on Sunday.

All classes will end by 12:30 p.m.  If you need to depart campus earlier than that, please notify the Office of Admission at 800.640.2287 or admission@linfield.edu.  Our professors have asked that only the visiting student attend the class.  Family members are welcome to stroll campus, use the library, browse the bookstore or grab a coffee in O’Riley’s, our campus coffee shop.

Did I win a scholarship?

All participants will be notified of the exam results no later than April 1.  Scholarships are the following amounts, divided over four years:

            First Place:      $16,000 ($4,000 each year)

            Second Place:  $12,800 ($3,200 each year)

            Third Place:     $10,000 ($2,500 each year)

The academic departments reserve the right to award up to three scholarships per examination.
