Competitive Scholarship Competition Rules
- The Linfield Competitive Scholarship Program is open only to seniors in high
school who are American citizens or permanent residents. Students with outstanding
academic records and test scores are encouraged to apply.
- Participation in the Competitive Scholarship Day is by invitation only. To
qualify for consideration, interested students must do the following by December 1.
- A completed application includes:
- Common Application with essay
- Secondary School Report
- One teacher recommendation letter
- Official SAT 1 or ACT scores
- Official high school transcript(s)
- Linfield Common Application Supplement
All materials must be postmarked by December 1. Unfortunately, we cannot consider SAT scores earned after the November 7 test date or ACT scores earned after the October 24 test date in determining Competitive
Scholarship Day eligibility. Later scores still may be used for application for admission and financial aid purposes.
-
Each student may participate in only one competition, but students should list a total of three exam choices on the Competitive Scholarship Program Application. Students are encouraged to select areas in which they feel most competent. Each academic competition may limit the number of students it wishes to invite for the examination. Placement into a competition will be based upon the quality of the application for admission to Linfield College and supporting credentials.
-
The Competitive Scholarship exam choices do not need to be in a student’s major. For example, a student may choose the chemistry exam, even if they have interests in majoring in psychology.
-
Competitive Scholarship invitations with the exam assignment will be mailed by January 15, 2010. Invited students must RSVP by February 5, 2010.
-
We’re sorry, but exams may not be conducted off campus or on another day.
-
Up to three scholarships may be awarded in each exam. It is anticipated that the scholarship committee will award approximately 87 scholarships ranging from $10,000 – $16,000 (distributed over four years). Depending on the results of the examinations, Linfield may not offer all scholarships.
- 1st place - $16,000
- 2nd place - $12,800
- 3rd place - $10,000
-
Exam winners are not obligated to major in a particular discipline, but winners must enroll at Linfield in order to receive the scholarship. The Competitive Scholarship will be added to the financial aid award.
-
Announcements of award winners will be made after March 12, 2010. All participants will be notified of their results by mail. The Competitive Scholarship is automatically renewable for the sophomore year. All award winners must maintain a 3.0 Linfield grade point average and remain in good standing with the college to continue receiving the scholarship beyond the sophomore year.
