- Nobel Laureate Symposium
Linfield is one of five institutions world-wide to host the Nobel Laureate Symposium. Nobel prize winners are hosted on Linfield’s campus every other year to share their knowledge and encourage conversation across academic disciplines. Past speakers have included Jose Ramos-Horta, Peace prize winner for his work in East Timor and Dr. Carl E. Weiman, a physicist who created the first Bose-Einstein condensate. - January Term
Held either on-campus or on location around the world, January term classes offer four-week study intensive opportunities for students. The optional term falls between the traditional fall and spring semesters. Past January Term courses have included Greek Mythology and Drama, Ecology of Ecosystems, Culture and Business is South Africa and Health care in India.

All first-year students will participate in Colloquium, a class designed to assist students with the transition into college. Colloquium groups are comprised of 20 students with similar academic interests and are assigned to a faculty advisor and peer advisor. The group will meet weekly throughout the fall semester and will focus on academic advising, campus resources and other topics related to becoming a successful college student.

Practical experiences can deepen the understanding of an academic area and all students are encouraged to participate in experiential learning. Collaborative research projects in departments such as business, biology, chemistry, math, music, physics or psychology are common. Other opportunities include clinical training in the Linfield Athletic Treatment Center, laboratory work with the Linfield Anthropology museum and internships.
