Newby Hall

image of location

Built in 1894 and named in honor of the founder of McMinnville, W.T. Newby, Newby Hall served as the college gymnasium until 1921. It then became the science building, then the chemistry building, fondly called the "Chem Shack." It was remodeled in 1947 as faculty housing. It now houses a maximum of 20 students and offers residents quite a selection of room typesranging from doubles to quads. Each spacious room has a private bath and most have a private kitchen area (kitchens are not fully equipped with appliances). Triples and quads have a living/dining area separate from the bedroom spaces. Newby Hall generally houses all upper class students. Each room is connected to the campus computer network, including internet, e-mail, and voice mail.

“I feel I have a better sense of the world, I acquired a better ability to learn, a better understanding of other people. I have just gained a better sense of the rhythm of life.”
Andrew Thron, Linfield Alumni '05
