Financial Aid

How does all this financial mumbo jumbo work?  It’s actually pretty simple.  A Linfield education is covered by your financial contribution, your family contribution, grants, loans, scholarships and student employment.  Scholarships are determined primarily on academic merit; the rest are based on your financial need.

61.9% grants and scholarships 3.7% workstudy 34.3% loans

Scholarships

We offer a number of renewable scholarships based on who you are and what you’ve done.  If you’ve demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and potential, you may be eligible.  Some awards are based entirely on merit; others take financial need into consideration.

Grants and Loans

Depending on your financial situation, you may receive grants (need-based awards that you don’t have to repay) or low-interest loans (which often don’t start accruing interest until after you graduate).  Any student who files the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will qualify for federal student loans regardless of financial need.  We’ll give you the details in your financial aid package.

Work Study

You may have the opportunity to work on campus during the school year. You are paid Oregon’s minimum wage and generally work 5-10 hours per week. The job isn’t going to appear out of nowhere, however, so you’ve got to get out there are apply for the position you want.  Students have recently worked as a theatre promotional assistant, audio/video manager, a research assistant and art department model.
