We are nearing the end of Greek Week, which is one of the most fun weeks of the year for those involved in Greek Life here at Linfield. Each fraternity partners with a sorority on campus to compete against the other pairs in different events over the course of the week. This year my fraternity, Theta Chi, is partnered with the Alpha Phi sorority. The other partnerships (in order of sorority with fraternity) are Phi Sigma Sigma with Delta Psi Delta, Zeta Tau Alpha with Kappa Sigma, and Sigma Kappa Phi with Pi Kappa Alpha.
The first event was a fundraiser for Operation Gratitude, which is an organization that sends care packages to members of the U.S. Armed Forces. If you’re interested, you can read more about Operation Gratitude here. Collectively we raised over $1600 in the span of just a few days for this great cause, with Alpha Phi and Theta Chi raising the most! That started us in first place for Greek Week, and we are still in first place currently. Another event was Field Games, which included human pyramid building, water balloon toss, relay race, chubby bunny, orange necking, and Frisbee throw. Yours truly competed in the Frisbee throw on behalf of Alpha Phi and Theta Chi and took first place! There was also a trivia event and a dodge-ball tournament, both of which were won by members of Theta Chi and Alpha Phi.
The last event is tomorrow, and that is lip-sync. Everyone calls lip-sync the great equalizer as it is worth the most points and therefore no lead is safe. We’ve been practicing our dances for over a month now in preparation, and it looks like it’s going to be a really fun event! I’ll be sure to blog again next week to let you all know how it goes and see if Theta Chi wins Greek Week for the third year in a row!
