Austin: Favorite Memory of College so far

It’s hard to believe that my last post was from clear back in December, which seems so long ago! Christmas break has come and gone, January term has also come and gone, and here we are three weeks into second semester.

Linfield is on a 4:1:4 schedule, which means 4 months for the first semester, 1 month for Jan term, and 4 months for second semester. During Jan term, students can stay home for an extended period of time and come back for second semester which starts mid-February, can come back to campus and take an accelerated course load of 3-5 credits which is completed in 4 weeks, or can travel abroad with a small group of Linfield faculty and fellow students. This year I chose to come back to campus and take a psychology course. In addition to learning new things, working, and researching, I had some great time during the weekends to explore some of the areas surrounding Linfield. Through Linfield’s activity board, I was able to go snowshoeing at Mt. St. Helens (about 90 minutes away from campus) with a few other students on a Saturday. For less than ten bucks I spent the entire day snowshoeing and exploring a beautiful new place with some great people and an awesome guide. The next day I went with some of my friends from Greenfield, which the club in campus with a mission of working towards making Linfield more sustainable, to hike a trail called Cascade Head just north of Lincoln City (about 45 minutes away from campus). The hike was phenomenal and had incredible views. This weekend was my favorite memory of college so far; I had a great experience traveling to some beautiful new places with friends and was able to enjoy the nice winter weather (it was almost 65).

Check out the pictures from my snowshoeing and hiking adventures. If you love the outdoors and enjoy outdoor recreational activities—Linfield is a great school to go to…and of course, if you don’t, there are many other things to do on and around campus!

Until next time,
