Fund Raising

  • Only recognized College or ASLC organizations may conduct fundraisers. All fundraising, if on campus, must be approved by the Dean of Students office (via the Director of College Activities, Riley 214) and, if off campus, by the Office of College Relations (Melrose 026). All solicitation of funds, once approved, must clearly state where the money is going and what organization is performing the fund-raiser. All off-campus fundraisers must be for the benefit of Linfield College or a Linfield-sponsored organization or activity. That organization is responsible for sending a written report of funds raised to the College Activities Office following the event.
  • Donations: Any solicitation of donated funds by a group associated with Linfield must be approved by the Office of College Relations, Melrose Hall 026.
  • Charity Tie-Ins: Soliciting funds for campus groups by tying them to charity fund-raising is not acceptable. For example, a club or organization may not solicit funds giving half to a charity and keeping half for their own purpose, even if so advertised.
  • Pledge-Based Fund Raising: Bowl-a-thons, Jog-a-thons, endurance tests and the like will be considered. These are not as desirable, however, as projects in which a customer or client receives some service or product for their money. These events need to be approved in advance by the Linfield Development Office, Melrose 026.
  • Raffles: Raffles are not a preferred fund-raising method but each organization would be allowed to hold one raffle per year. Raffles may not offer cash as a prize. Other gambling type fund-raisers (such as 50/50 splits, casino nights etc.) are not acceptable.
  • Sales: Sales of products by Linfield people, where there is no undue pressure to buy, and where the products are sold for a reasonable price are permitted. Sales for fund-raising (poster sales, charity donations, etc), auctions, or selling merchandise (CD’s, shirts, food, etc) as a part of an event is permitted if pre-approved by the Director of College Activities and if the vendor is sponsored by a College club, organization, or department. Members of the college community may sell their art work and crafts if they meet the requirements of sponsorship and the pricing terms. Individual entrepreneurial sales are not allowed under any circumstances.
  • Contracted Sales: Linfield clubs and organizations may contract with outside vendors for on-campus sales subject to approval by the College Activities Office where such sales are consistent with guidelines publicized by that office. Each club or organization is limited to one such contracted sale per year. Sales of insurance and credit cards are NOT permitted.
  • Services: The most desirable fund-raisers, and the likeliest to find favor, are service projects in which students are paid for services rendered and in which the fee is a normal one for the service provided. Running a car wash, for example, would have students provide a service for a fair fee which is then donated to the project.
  • Clinics: Are an acceptable means for fund-raising. Use of facilities, however, must be cleared through Conferences and Events Planning prior to scheduling.
