Family Weekend 2011 Schedule of Events

Family Weekend is upon us.

Online registration is no longer available.  If you wish to register for Family Weekend, we invite you to do so by calling 503-883-2547.

You may also wish to register in person at Riley Hall on Friday between 3 and 8 pm or on Saturday between 9 am to 1 pm.

Friday, October 21

3:00 p.m. -   8:00 p.m. Registration, Fred Meyer Lounge - Riley Hall
Pick up your Wildcat Family Weekend packet.

12:00 p.m. –  11:00 p.m. Gameroom Open - Riley Hall, 3rd Floor
Challenge your student to a game of billiards, darts, ping-pong, foosball, air hockey or one of the various video games!  

2:00 p.m. -  3:00 p.m. Linfield Center for the Northwest -  Riley 201
You may have heard of Linfield Center for the Northwest. Dr. Jeff Peterson, professor of sociology, will explain what it is, why your student will benefit from it and how you as parents can help support the center and your students.  

3:00 p.m. -   4:00 p.m. Career Services at Linfield -  Riley 201
Wondering how Linfield will help prepare your son or daughter for a career after college?  Hear from Linfield’s new Director of Career Services, Michael J. Hampton. Learn about the ways that Linfield can work with students, even as early as freshman and sophomore year, to get them started on the right track. Find out how parents can play a role in career development.   Following the talk, stop by the career center to take a tour.  

4:00 p.m. -  5:00 p.m. International Programs Open House – Melrose 025
Stop by and meet various members of the International Programs staff.  Visit with Linfield students who have already had a study abroad experience. Learn about the  best ways to prepare for study abroad.  Find out important dates for those wishing to  go abroad for January Term or for a semester. Have your questions answered by  those in the know.          

4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wine Tasting Walk– 3rd Street
As you walk down historic 3rd street you will be able to visit the many different wine rooms and wineries.   

8:30 p.m.             Hometown Hello - Jonasson
Visit with other families from your area. Talk about ride sharing or the ins and outs of being from Seattle/California/Boise and having a college student in McMinnville.
 

Saturday, October 22

8:30 am - 12:00 pm Make a Difference Day, Fred Meyer Lounge – Riley Hall
Take advantage of this opportunity to volunteer with your student at various community based organizations throughout McMinnville.   

8:30 a.m.- 10:00 a.m.     Parents’ Council Leadership Team Meeting – TJ Day, room 201
Leadership team members gather to plan events and activities for the Parents’ Council.   Interested? Email dharmon@linfield.edu

9:00 a.m.-  1:00 p.m.          Registration, Fred Meyer Lounge - Riley Hall

10:00 a.m. -  4:00 p.m.       Downtown McMinnville Celebration – 3rd street

Downtown merchants invite you to enjoy the various shops and restaurants available on historic Third Street. There will be great specials at the stores.   

10:30 a.m.- 1:00 p.m        Family Weekend Brunch - Dillin Hall
Enjoy the college dining experience with your student.  

12:00 p.m.           Women’s Soccer vs. Puget Sound - Soccer Field
Catch Wildcat fever while you watch Linfield taking on the Loggers from UPS.
 
1:30 p.m.             Football vs. Pacific Lutheran - Football Field
Cheer the Wildcats to victory as they battle with the Lutes from PLU.  

2:30 p.m.             Men’s Soccer vs. Puget Sound - Soccer Field
Support your Wildcats as they take to the field and face their opponents, the Loggers of UPS.  
9:00 p.m.             ComedySportz - Ice Auditorium, Melrose Hall
Come laugh it up as a group of talented comedians perform live Improv comedy.

Got some time to fill this weekend? Take a stroll around campus and admire the beautiful buildings and landscape.

Important dates to remember:

Dad’s Weekend – February 24th and 25th
Mom’s Weekend –May 4th & 5th
These weekends are an opportunity for you and your student to spend time together.  Formal events are not planned for the weekends but resources are available online for those wishing to plan their own visits.
 
Commencement Weekend – May 28-29th
Plan to attend Baccalaureate, the Grad Finale and Commencement
