Peter Howland. Uh, from 1974 to 1978 and graduated in 1978. Uh, I did travel abroad to Japan, um. I can't remember whether it was uh summer of my junior or sophomore year but uh it was one of the first groups to go to Kanto Gakuin University. That was a wonderful experience. We uh spent about a month during the summer and we uh of course flew into Tokyo and then uh went by um, if I remember right, by uh taxi to Yokohama. And we didn't stay on the Kanto Gakwuin campus, we stayed at a hotel oh, about fifteen-twenty minutes away by uh by train and of course my memory could be faulty on that but. Uh it was a wonderful experience ah just getting to know about, learning about the Japanese culture and the Japanese people and trying to learn Japanese; I can't say that anything really stuck in terms of that regard uh- you know it's, it's a difficult language and I admire people that can uh really learn it to uh 'cause it is a challenge. But, we, I mean, you know it was interesting everything was so much smaller than what we were used to. And while we were in Japan we did have the opportunity to have a home, home stay with a Japanese family which was an educational experience in itself. And we got to go by, go on the bullet train to go to, uh Kyoto and Narah to some of the old Japanese cities which were very beautiful. Professor Bill Elliot of the English department and his wife, Carol, uh accompanied us on that trip.
