150 Years of Academic Excellence

As a word, Sesquicentennial* hardly trips off the tongue. But as a thought it engages mind and spirit, evoking 150 years of purposeful growth by Linfield College. This year we look back proudly upon that rich history and celebrate the people who have made the college what it is today: a vibrant and progressive institution with a mission to foster the intellectual, spiritual, and social development of its students.

Officially we will mark our 150th birthday on January 30, 2008. Throughout the spring term the celebration will continue with events that highlight different aspects of the college and its history. Here on this website you will find the schedule of those events. In addition, you can hear and read recent interviews with Linfield alumni.

In May we will dedicate Sesquicentennial Plaza, honoring alumni and other friends of the college. Whether you visit the campus only on that occasion or choose to attend all the activities that lie ahead this year, we look forward to seeing you. In the meantime, you’re likely to find that Sesquicentennial is really quite easy to say if you take it the way the college has grown: slowly, deliberately, and thoughtfully.

*Literally ‘half-and-hundred-years.’
